Boy racers are in the sights of police in the Nelson Bays district.
Police are dealing with reports of groups of up to 30 vehicles dumping diesel on the roads and doing burnouts.
Acting Sergeant Peter Greenland said the drivers were making a lot of noise and "intimidating" other road users.
"They're treating cars like toys and public roads like their playground and that's going to end in tears," he said.
Police have impounded three vehicles over the past week. The drivers have been summonsed to appear in court to face charges under so-called boy racer legislation.
