A Nelson man has been jailed for seven years for raping and sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
Matthew Craig Corkill, 20, was sentenced in Nelson District Court this week on 14 charges that included rape, unlawful sexual connection with a young person, threatening to kill, assault, theft and resisting police, the Nelson Mail reported.
Corkill admitted the rape charge in July after the first day of a jury trial, after the complainant had given evidence.
He was also sentenced on two assault charges resulting from two incidents of random violence, when, in July Corkill approached a person in a car, leaned in the window and punched him twice, knocking out two of the victim's teeth.
Two hours later Corkill and two acquaintances approached a man and a woman and robbed them of an iPod and jacket.
