KEY POINTS:
Nearly a million people watched the finale of Dancing With The Stars last night.
"It was a great result for last night's final - the biggest audience in three years," said Television New Zealand spokeswoman Melanya Burrows.
With 928,000 tuning in to see netballer Temepara George beat former rugby league player and boxer Monty Betham, only the first season (won by former All Black Norm Hewitt) was more popular posting 979,000 viewers.
Finals aside, Ms Burrows said series figures have remained "pretty similar over the years", averaging around 780,000 per episode.
Despite the loyalty of the fans she said it was too early to say whether there would be a season five.
As far as the next bunch of potential dancers went, Ms Burrows said the biggest obstacle was finding celebrities who were able to show up week in and week out.
"I'm sure any DWTS fan could rattle off a bunch of names they would love to see take part in any future (season). It's less about finding the names and faces, than finding names and faces who can make the time commitment."
Ms Burrows said allowing stars to nominate the charity for which they compete for prize money was a big motivator.
It was not yet known how much will go to to Autism New Zealand Inc, the beneficiary of this year's winners, but the previous three years have raised a total of $1.1 million.
