Almost half the population is against the Government's plans to allow mining on conservation land.
The finding comes in a survey out this morning from the Business Council for Sustainable Development. It says 30 per cent of people are comfortable with mining, but 46 per cent are against it.
Sixty per cent also think the Government should be taking a bigger slice of the profits, and there is strong support for a 'super-tax' on all mining.
Currently, the Government only takes a royalty of between one-and-a-half and two per cent.
