Lifeguards saved a woman's life last night after she almost drowned at a council-owned swimming pool in Henderson, West Auckland.
The woman was swimming at the West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre complex when she got into trouble.
Her friend alerted lifeguards who pulled her unresponsive from the pool and performed CPR, Auckland Council spokesman Alex Calwell said.
The woman was awake and communicating with staff before she was taken to Auckland Hospital by St John Ambulance.
"Our thoughts are with the woman and we wish her a full recovery," Calwell said.
"In the coming days, Auckland Council will be working with staff and anyone at the facility at the time of the incident to offer any support required."
