KEY POINTS:
The Royal New Zealand Navy's newest ship - HMNZS Canterbury - has sailed out of Melbourne and is on her way to Lyttelton Harbour.
The multi-purpose ship was built in Holland and is the first of seven new ships being built for the Navy. She will serve in Project Protector operations which include offshore patrols.
The 131m Canterbury can carry four helicopters, two landing craft and has a 25mm and two .50 caliber machine guns.
She has a top speed of 19 knots and is expected in Lyttelton on June 28.
