KEY POINTS:
The Government will spend more than $300,000 this year chartering flights to move prisoners around the country, says National MP Simon Power.
Mr Power said it was an example of the Corrections Department's "cavalier handling of taxpayers' money".
"I can understand the need to move the odd prisoner, but something is seriously wrong when they have to charter whole flights," he said.
"If they got their planning right in the first place this money could be spent on something useful."
Mr Power obtained the figure through written parliamentary questions.
