KEY POINTS:
National has run into a dead end in its bid to find the culprit who made secret recordings of private conversations with MPs.
The party was hoping to get security camera footage of a cocktail evening in the Wellington Town Hall last Friday, where recordings of at least three MPs were made.
Wellington City Council, which manages the venue, says while there are cameras - none were operating that night.
The council says it is unable to provide any further information for National.
It is unclear whether it would have been legally obliged to hand over any footage, if it did exist.
