National has issued a justice policy it says is based on common sense and equality.
The party's justice spokesman, Wayne Mapp, said the Property Relations Act, which he described as "the most damaging social legislation in a decade", would be reviewed so that de facto couples would have to contract into the law rather than contract out.
Adoption, custody and guardianship laws would be reviewed.
National would retain access to the Privy Council and would ensure commercial law kept pace with the modern marketplace.
The party's previously announced commitment to hold a binding referendum on the electoral system within 12 months is part of the policy.
