The overwhelming police presence at this weekend's National Party conference in Auckland is being questioned.
Dozens of police officers, on foot, on bikes and in cars, surrounded the Sky City Convention Centre, where around 200 students protested yesterday.
Another protest is planned for today.
Auckland Action Against Poverty spokeswoman Sue Bradford said the police presence yesterday was totally unnecessary.
She said it was intimidating for small groups such as hers to face hundreds of police, pointing out there will probably be more police than protestors.
