The last of the nasty weather has made it tough for a helicopter rescue crew coming to the aid of a woman who fell ill in remote Minginui, in Te Urewera.
Locals set up a landing zone for Rotorua's BayTrust rescue helicopter crew, at the rugby grounds, and the crew had to use night vision goggles.
It landed at 2.00AM in challenging conditions to pick up the 51-year-old with a medical condition.
Once stabilised at the scene, the woman was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital in a comfortable condition for further treatment.
