A Napier woman was killed when her car and a truck collided on State Highway 2 south of the city this morning.
The woman, in her mid 60s, was the sole occupant of the car and died at the scene, a central police communications spokeswoman said.
Police said she may have been seen driving erratically before the crash. It appeared she had crossed the centre-line and veered into the truck's path.
She was yet to be formally identified and her name would not be released until her next of kin were notified.
The truck's driver was not injured and police said he "tried to take evasive action".
Police were seeking witnesses who may have seen her silvery-green Mistubishi Colt hatchback on SH2 early this morning.
Anyone with information should contact Napier police.
