Prime Minister John Key, heading to Hawke's Bay on an official visit this week, is due to play a round of golf with a Napier police officer shot in a siege last year.
The game with Maraenui Golf Club champion Senior Constable Bruce Miller, shot by Jan Molenaar at the start of a 30-hour siege eight months ago, was not going to be publicised, but local MPs Chris Tremain and Craig Foss were reluctant to deny it when pressed by the Hawke's Bay Today newspaper.
Mr Tremain said the match to be played on Saturday was a quiet commitment by Mr Key soon after the incident, in which Senior Constable Len Snee was shot dead and Senior Constable Grant Diver and a civilian were also injured.
Molenaar took his own life.
