A Napier police officer carrying out a routine breath-test suffered a broken nose and cuts to his face when hit with a bottle early yesterday.
Police said the officer had stopped a car in Lodge Rd at 12.53am when he was approached by two men on foot.
One hit him repeatedly with the bottle, resulting in a large gash to his nose, which was later found to be fractured, and a cut forehead before he escaped to his patrol car.
