KEY POINTS:
Police have named two men killed when the car they were in smashed into a trees off State Highway 4 in the central North Island yesterday.
They were 44-year-old Naushad Ali and his brother, 42-year-old Abbas Ali, who was visiting from Fiji.
The brothers were both in the front of the car when it crashed and they died at the scene.
Two other members of the extended Ali family, were taken to hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
The crash happened about 6.45am at Owhango, about 20km south of Taumarunui.
Senior Sergeant Paul Wilton said many members of the Ali family had travelled from Auckland to Taumarunui to support the crash survivors.
Crash specialists investigated the scene yesterday and will report their findings to the coroner.
