KEY POINTS:
Name suppression has been lifted for the man accused of the kidnapping and multiple rape of a woman in New Plymouth last month.
Gabriel Lee Walden, 27, has yet to enter pleas in New Plymouth District Court to charges of kidnapping, four of rape, three of unlawful sexual connection, two of threatening to kill and possession of a weapon.
Arguing for bail, Walden's defence counsel, Kylie Pascoe, said the complainant had displayed unusual behaviour since the alleged incident, which included writing to the accused on three occasions.
She said the evidence did not have a "ring of truth" about it and her client was prepared to abide by the most stringent conditions.
Police opposed bail, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
Judge Allan Roberts remanded Walden in custody until March 20.
