Name suppression has lifted for a Rotorua man accused of the 1979 murder of Rodney Tahu in Turangi.
He is Menzies Reginald John Hallett, 70.
Hallett first appeared in the Rotorua District Court last December and was granted interim name suppression. When he appeared last month name suppression was lifted by a Rotorua District Court judge.
However, Hallett's lawyer Jonathan Temm lodged an appeal in the High Court at Rotorua against that decision. The appeal was due to be heard today but was abandoned by Mr Temm.
Mr Tahu was killed in Turangi and was found with gunshot wounds to his head and shoulder but died shortly after arriving at Taumarunui Hospital.
