A former national figure has appeared in court in Nelson accused of indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
The man, who has interim name suppression to protect the identity of the girl, was remanded on bail without plea during a brief court appearance in Nelson District Court yesterday, The Nelson Mail reported.
He is due back in court on February 2.
Conditions of his bail included that he did not contact the girl or a witness.
Court documents show the man allegedly touched the girl's breasts and genitals on December 30.
