Name suppression has been continued for a man charged with assaulting a 2-year-old girl who was yesterday critically ill in the Starship hospital after emergency surgery to relieve swelling on her brain. The 27-year-old is charged with assaulting Seini Ikamanu, also called Jane, last Wednesday at a North Shore address.
Judge Lawrence Hinton said during the accused's appearance in the North Shore District Court yesterday that it was appropriate for name suppression to remain, although he did not explain why.
The accused was granted bail on conditions that include a ban on associating with any child under 16 unless supervised by an adult over 30.
