"We were playing well but the goals just wouldn't come and I was starting to think we were just going to miss out," he said.
"There were some pretty happy people about when that second goal went in."
Extra-time was 15 minutes each way and there was no addition to the score in the first of the two spells but Wairarapa United finally took a stranglehold on the game with two quick goals in the second, Clarke completing a hat-trick and Chontelle Labon adding the other.
Victoria University were not yet done with though, scoring a goal of their own close to the game's end but time ran out for them and Wairarapa United were the victors.
Considering University play in the Capital premier league on the club scene, one tier above Wairarapa United, this was a significant result for the latter.
Also noteworthy were comments from University management that this had been their best performance of the season to date.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Keinzley whose team has fashioned an unbeaten record in division one play and look well on target for promotion to the premier grade as the 2015 season advances.
"This was clearly the toughest game we have had all season and I thought the girls handled the pressure of the occasion extra well," he said.
"Obviously there will be even tougher games to come in this competition but we won't be disgraced."
Clarke's three goals made her one of the standout players for Wairarapa United, along with Annie Jones, who took a knock early on and after recovering moved to the crucial role of central defender where she did some sterling work on defence.
Meisha Boone supported Clarke well in attacking situations and Casey Scott and Stephanie Andrews-Paul had impressive games too.
