A trust funded entirely by a single mystery benefactor is taking over the management and restoration of Rotoroa Island near Waiheke Island in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf.
A plan to replant the island, owned by The Salvation Army, and open it to the public was signalled 18 months ago but it comes to fruition with the handover of management on January 31.
