There's no clue as to what's causing a stink to waft over Hamilton.
Some locals online complain it smells like rotten eggs, while others say it's more like rotting meat.
Waikato Regional Council spokesperson Stephen Ward says they haven't been able to pin down the source.
"The only thing we've been able to find is a farm in Temple View where someone spread some wet chicken manure but we're still not really certain where the smells are coming from."
Mr Ward says the manure was only spread after they'd already started receiving reports of the stink.
