Liquor magnate Douglas Myers has been awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree by Auckland University, as has art gallery owner Gus Fisher.
The degree was conferred at a ceremony yesterday.
Vice-Chancellor Stuart McCutcheon said both men were generous philanthropists who had made financial contributions to the university.
Mr Myers, the former chairman of Lion Nathan who now lives overseas, had contributed to the yet-to-be-opened business school and a visual and performing arts centre, said Mr McCutcheon.
Mr Fisher had also contributed to the centre and to research into Parkinson's disease.
