Muslims around the world are preparing to mark the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan with the festival of Eid al-Fitr.
Ramadan is ninth and holiest month on the Islamic calendar, which is based on the cycles of the moon. It commemorates the handing down of the contents of the holy book, the Koran, to the Prophet Mohammed about 1400 years ago.
During the festival of Eid al-Fitr, Muslims dress in their finest clothes, adorn their homes with lights and decorations, give treats to children, and enjoy visits with friends and family.
