The medals stolen from the Waiouru Army Museum will be in the hands of the police this Anzac Day but the museum has a special commemoration planned.
Museum director retired Colonel Raymond Seymour said a special exhibition had been set up for Anzac Day called "Remembrance".
The exhibition includes photographs from military cemeteries around the world where the New Zealand soldiers are buried.
"I'm going to invite people to come in there and drop their poppy under a particular war grave cemetery. I've got an uncle buried at Casino, so I'll be dropping my poppy under there," Mr Seymour said.
