KEY POINTS:
An original and unrestored black 1950 Jaguar XK120 with a lifetime history in Australia has sold for A$112,000 ($130,000) at auction in Melbourne.
And a concourse-winning 1960 Porsche 356B Super 90 Roadster that had been restored at a cost of more than A$150,000 sold well above the estimate for A$170,000.
But most interest at the Shannons auction centred on the line-up of Australian muscle cars.
A 1968 HK GTS 327 Monaro Bathurst coupe in signature Warwick Yellow sold for A$185,000, a 1974 Holden LH Torana SL/R 5000 L34 sedan fetched A$110,000 and a 1972 LJ Torana XU-1 made A$85,000.
The A$31,000 paid for a 1971 Chrysler VG Hemi Pacer Coupe pointed to the strength of second-tier Australian muscle cars.
But it was the strong performance of a series of restored and original 1960s-era Holdens that highlighted the growing interest in affordable Australian classics.
A pair of 1966 HR Premier sedans sold for A$11,250 and A$10,000 respectively, while a 1968 HK police panel van, a 1962 EK panel van and a 1960 EK Utility each sold for A$9000.
Other noteworthy European sports cars sales were a 1988 Guards Red Porsche 930 Turbo Cabriolet that sold for A$80,000 and a 1976 original right-hand-drive Maserati Merak coupe that went for A$40,000.
For those with a little less cash, a 1962 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe sold for A$18,000.
