Muscle cars, cash seized in police raid

The Asset Recovery Unit were making inquiries for the potential forfeiture of the seized items.

A gold ingot, seven Harley Davidsons, nine muscle cars and a stack of cash were among the assets seized by police in a coordinated raid.

Police officers from Manawatu and Wellington, assisted by the Armed Offenders Squad, the National Asset Recovery Unit and the Wellington clan lab team, carried out the raid at a property between Bunnythorpe and Feilding yesterday morning.

Manawatu CIB Detective Sergeant Dave Thompson said the raid yielded approximately $20,000 in cash, nine muscle cars, two utes, a BMW, seven Harley Davidson motorcycles, a quad bike, luxury watches, and a five ounce gold ingot.

"A significant quantity of what we believe to be methamphetamine has also been seized as well as chemicals and other drug-making equipment."

An assessment at the property would be carried out to determine if it was being used as a clan lab, Mr Thompson said.

A 44-year-old man from Palmerston North was arrested at the property and charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply, he said.

The man appeared in the Palmerston North District Court yesterday and was remanded in custody. Further charges against him were likely, Mr Thompson said.

The Asset Recovery Unit were making inquiries for the potential forfeiture of the seized items, he said.

"Organised crime is a disease to society and we will continue to concentrate our efforts to remove illicit drugs from communities and hold those who benefit from the proceeds of crime to full account."
