Muriwai drowning victim named by police

Police have identified the man found washed up on Auckland's Muriwai Beach on Christmas Eve.

He was Michael John Bampton, 66, of Avondale, Auckland.

Police said he was found on the west coast beach on Saturday morning.

The death was not suspicious and has been referred to the Coroner.

Police thanked the members of the public for their help.
