People will be allowed to go back into the water at Muriwai Beach today where local man Adam Strange was killed in a shark attack on Wednesday.
The beach and neighbouring Maori Bay have been closed since Mr Strange was killed by what is believed to have been a 3-4 metre great white as he trained for an ocean swim.
Muriwai Surf Lifeguards chairman Tim Jago said people were now free to get into the water.
Surf lifeguards were currently being briefed to prepare for a day that promises to be filled with media and public attention.
Their patrols will start at 10am.
