KEY POINTS:
A man who has admitted murdering convicted paedophile Glen Stinson said in court yesterday that his two co-accused were innocent.
Stinson, 57, was found beaten to death on a rural road near Foxton in Manawatu in July last year.
Bruce Tamatea, 46, who is awaiting sentence for the killing, told the High Court in Palmerston North yesterday his co-accused Aubrey Harrison, 27, and a woman who can't be named, were not involved in the fatal bashing.
"They shouldn't be here. I killed Glen Stinson," the Manawatu Standard reported him as saying.
Tamatea, who was called as a witness for the pair, said the intention on the night of the killing was to "scare the shit" out of Stinson for sexually molesting a young girl.
The trio had driven Stinson to Himatangi and then Foxton on the night of the killing and Tamatea said he then "went too far", bashing him with a hammer and stomping him.
"I had the hammer, I used the hammer. It was only supposed to be a bash."
The trial is expected to finish this week.
