KEY POINTS:
A memorial to a man murdered in Porirua was set on fire early today.
The makeshift memorial, for Fitzgerald "Fitz" Risati, was placed outside a dairy on the corners of Mungavin Ave and Champion Street.
Central fire communications shift manager Andrew Tollison told NZPA fire crews were called to the scene at 4.50am.
Mr Risati was stabbed to death in what police say was an unprovoked attack in the Porirua suburb of Cannons Creek on December 8.
The IHC caregiver was out celebrating his 24th birthday with friends.
His 21-year-old brother was hospitalised in the attack.
Two men charged with murdering Mr Risati and attempting to murder his brother, appeared in the Porirua District Court last Friday.
