KEY POINTS:
A man murdered in his inner city Auckland home on Tuesday night was stabbed several times, police said today.
Reece John Shadbolt, 38, had been in the Parnell flat for less than a week before his violent death.
He had lived in the St John's and Meadowbank area before moving to the address in Claybrook Rd.
A print production studio manager in Parnell, he was believed to have lived alone.
Mr Shadbolt's body was removed from his home late this morning and a post-mortem examination this afternoon revealed that he died after being stabbed.
His body was discovered in the one-bedroom flat on Tuesday after police northern communications centre staff received a call about 8pm to say someone had been injured there earlier in the day.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Beard said today that police had information that there had been some sort of altercation in the flat about 12 hours earlier.
He said police were carrying out local inquiries to try to find out who might have been in the area of the block of flats about 8.30am.
"We'd like to hear from anyone with information that might assist us to find his killer or killers."
Mr Beard said Mr Shadbolt's family was understandably shocked by his death and was helping police to establish a clear picture of his background and associates.
"The scene is still cordoned off and I expect the examination of it will continue for some days."
