Hundreds of mourners have farewelled murdered dairy farmer Scott Guy at a service in the Manawatu this morning.
The 31-year-old's coffin was driven to Feilding's St John the Evangelist Anglican Church on the back of his Toyota Hilux ute, which has the number plate MR GUY, surrounded by cowboy mates he'd made while working as a jackaroo in Australia.
An upturned cowboy hat sat on the casket once it was carried to the front of the church.
His widow Kylee - who is pregnant with the couple's second son - wrote a speech for her husband which was delivered by her uncle Rowan Bullock.
"From the first moment I met you, I was so in love with you," she said.
"We both knew we would be with each other forever. Our wedding was the best day of my life. We were one in a million and forever will be. We had a love that some people search for all their lives.
"I have two little Scottys with me and when I'm feeling sad, I'll look at them."
A montage of photos of Mr Guy's life played, including pictures from his wedding and with his 2-year-old son Hunter.
Big screen televisions and speakers were set up outside the church to cater for the procession and media contingent which spilled outside. The parish hall opposite the church was also full.
When Mr Guy's casket was carried out of the church, with pall-bearers including his brother and sisters, the cowboys formed a guard of honour and cracked whips.
A haka then followed from his Kiwi mates.
The service, attended by the head of the investigation into his murder, Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger, and other police officers, is to be followed by private burial this afternoon.
It has been eight days since Mr Guy was gunned down at the end of the driveway on his way to milking and police are yet to locate suspects or motives for the killing.
They yesterday increased search efforts for the shotgun that killed him, scouring river-banks behind his house and nearby roads.
Earlier, they stopped about 230 motorists from 4.30am to 8am at five road blocks to identify regular road users and try and jog residents' memories.
They will analyse the 80 questionnaires filled out by motorists.
