A man charged with murdering one young girl and trying to murder another by driving off the top of a quarry will go to trial in the high court.
The man, who has name suppression, was charged with murdering a nine-year-old girl after an incident in Mt Wellington, South Auckland in August last year.
At a depositions hearing today in Auckland District Court, the man was committed to trial on the charge of murdering the girl and attempting to murder a four-year-old at the same time.
The name of one of the young girls was suppressed last year and today the name of the older victim was also suppressed.
The charges come after a vehicle was driven off the top of a quarry, on the top of Mt Wellington, and rolled about 100m down a hill.
One of the girls died at the scene. The other girl and the man facing the charges were both taken to hospital.
