Police are looking for Justin Vance Turner, 28, for murder and believe the 28-year-old may have been in Featherston on Friday and Saturday night.
Turner is wanted over the violent death of Maqbool Hussain who was killed at Balmoral, Auckland, on the weekend of March 22 and 23.
Detective Inspector Chris Cahill said a man fitting Turner's description was seen in Featherston and was offered accommodation in a house bus. The man was clean shaven.
Turner is 176cm tall of medium build and has a tattoo on his neck of a dog wearing a spiked collar.
