A man charged with a firearms offence after a fatal shooting in Rodney this month has now been charged with murder. The 30-year-old was originally charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm, but when he appeared in the North Shore District Court yesterday he was charged with the murder of Orewa man Gene Patrick Atkins, 28. His name was suppressed and he was released on bail to appear again in court next month.
