Murder charge laid over newborn baby's death

A murder charge has been laid against a West Auckland teenager over the death of a premature baby.

The 18-year-old has appeared in the Waitakere District Court today and is also facing one count of disposing of a dead child, with intent to conceal the fact of its birth.

She has been granted interim name suppression until her next court appearance in October.

A judge has remanded the Green Bay teenager on bail under a 24 hour curfew.

She has also been barred from having any contact with children under the age of 16, unless supervised by her parents.
