KEY POINTS:
One of six young men accused of the murder of Timaru man Wayne Bray has been on the run for five days, after breaching bail.
John Oliver Jamieson, 20, a fisherman, ran away from police in Waimate, in South Canterbury, last Friday when he was found in breach of bail by associating with a Crown witness.
Jamieson was last seen when police were checking he was at his home, Sergeant Mike van der Heyden said.
After talking to the witness, police went inside the house to talk to Jamieson but he had escaped out a back window.
Police have questioned Jamieson's family and friends but have failed to find him. He has not returned to his Waimate bail address.
Mr van der Heyden told the Timaru Herald he did not believe Jamieson was a risk to the community.
Jamieson is jointly charged with Morgan Christopher James Parker, 18, freezing worker; Simon Antony Anglem, 18, labourer; Ashley Jordan Moffat, 17, butcher; Nicholas John Peters, 18, freezing worker; and Daniel Raymond Kreegher, 19, boner, with the murder of Mr Bray as a result of a street assault in Timaru in February.
All have pleaded not guilty.
Three of the six - Peters, Anglem and Parker - are remanded in custody, while Kreegher, Moffat and Jamieson are on bail until August 6, for a pre-trial hearing in the High Court at Christchurch.
