Murder accused denied bail

A man accused of stabbing another man to death with the help of the dead man's wife has been declined bail at the High Court at Auckland today.

Gurjinder Singh, 25, was declined bail by Justice Sarah Katz and will remain in custody until his trial before a jury next August.

He was not present in court today.

He is charged with the the murder of 35-year-old Davinder Singh, as is Davinder's wife Amandeep Kaur, 31.

Kaur was with her husband on the night of the incident on August 7 when police said they had stopped on a Papatoetoe road to eat takeaways while on their way home from work.

Kaur was too distressed to talk to police the day after her husband's death but not long after being interviewed, police charged her and Gurjinder Singh with murder.

The motive for the attack was not robbery, police confirmed.

Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.

The couple had a 10-year-old son who was living in India, family said.

Davinder Singh came to New Zealand from Rajasthan seven years ago and had been working as an upholsterer at DS Furniture in Mangere.
