Multiple-car crash in Wellington, one in serious condition

At least one person is in a very serious condition following a multiple-car crash in Wellington tonight.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a three-car crash on Haywards Hill at 6.20pm.

Fire Service spokesman David Barham said three fire trucks were in attendance and are in the process of cutting two people out of two different cars.

He said at least one person was in a very serious condition.

A police spokeswoman said one person that was still trapped in their car would be flown to Wellington Hospital by Helicopter once they were freed.

She said police were currently trying to divert traffic, with some roads blocked.

Newstalk ZB reported that the incident was blocking both lanes on State Highway 58, which links Upper Hutt and Porirua.

Motorists are being advised to expect delays.
