A large scrub fire on Auckland's Mt Wellington threatened houses in the area.
A police spokesman said firefighters were being kept "very busy'' dealing with the blaze in the east Auckland suburb.
The Fire Service said there were ten units at the scene, with extra units sent to the Stonefields housing development on the northern side.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
