A climber who was hit by falling rocks on Mt Taranaki has been airlifted to hospital after the third incident on the mountain this weekend.
Police said the climber was in a group of three on the southwestern side of the mountain and was flown by rescue helicopter to New Plymouth Base Hospital at 6.35pm tonight.
A St John Ambulance spokesman said the male climber suffered moderate injuries.
One other person also flew out in the helicopter and the third person walked out with a search and rescue crew.
On Sunday, an English tourist had to be rescued after spending the night on the mountain after she got lost while on a walk. The 34-year-old was airlifted off the mountain and taken to New Plymouth Base Hospital by the region's rescue helicopter just before 10am. She had traversed the summit alone but during her descent the weather deteriorated and she became lost.
On Friday morning, a 41-year-old woman, whose knee was seriously injured in a fall, was carried off Mt Taranaki on a stretcher.
