Mt Maunganui police call-out 'a misunderstanding'

Police stormed the Girven Rd Caltex forecourt this afternoon following a report that a man was being forced to drive around another man.

Police were also questioning people at Bayfair.

Police began searching for the alleged offender but after locating him in Paterson St the incident was revealed to be a misunderstanding.

Mount Maunganui Senior Sergeant Joel Lamb said the original incident of a potential aggravated robbery "simply did not happen".

A 23-year-old local man will appear in Tauranga District Court tomorrow to face a charge of drink driving. Police will oppose bail.
