Green MP Keith Locke will be a holding silent vigil outside the Singapore High Commission in Wellington today in protest against the hanging this morning of 25-year-old Australian drug trafficker, Van Nguyen.
Mr Locke says action must be taken against Singapore to change its mandatory death sentences for traffickers.
He is not suggesting trade sanctions, saying it needs to be dealt with politically.
Keith Locke says even the United Nations believes Singapore's mandatory death sentence is illegal .
He feels it is important for people around the world to show their horror at this execution.
Van Nguyen will be hanged at 11 NZ time this morning.
