Napier MP Chris Tremain has demanded an assurance that the proceeds from the sale of the Napier Hospital site will benefit Hawke's Bay.
It has been promised that the proceeds will provide capital for new operating theatres and a revamped mental health inpatient unit.
Mr Tremain said he had written to Health Minister Pete Hodgson to ask for confirmation the proceeds would not go towards lowering the district health board's forecast deficit of $13 million.
