KEY POINTS:
Labour's new MP for Mangere, Sua William Sio is angry he will not be sworn into Parliament in Samoan.
MPs will take office on Monday when Parliament opens after the election.
Mr Sio was fuming after Parliamentary Services told him he could only take the oath in Maori or English, NewsTalk ZB reported.
MPs are usually sworn in groups of two or three and he was told it would take too much time to be sworn in as an MP in Samoan.
Mr Sio said Samoan was his native language and the second most common tongue in Mangere.
He said Parliament Services should realise that New Zealand was in an age where not everyone spoke English and he would try to get the ruling overturned.
If Mr Sio fails he will ask for his oath to be taken in Maori, so as to make a point.
New Zealand has three official languages - English, Maori and Sign Language.
