KEY POINTS:
A man being investigated for movie pirating also had child pornography found on his computer, say police.
Detective Sergeant Neville Ross said the 28 year-old man was scheduled to appear in the Hamilton District Court this morning on four charges of selling pirated movies.
"This resulted from a joint operation we carried out with the New Zealand Federation Against Copyright Theft (NZFACT) last month which led to him facing a total of 4 charges relating to his offering and selling of movies protected by copyright," said Mr Ross.
He said hard drives were seized for forensic analysis and the man was now facing another 27 charges of "possessing objectionable material and one charge of making such publications".
"A website believed to be linked to this man has been identified as listing such objectionable movies for sale and we are currently initiating further enquiries in relation to this site," Mr Ross said.
He said the new charges carry sentences ranging from five to 10 years imprisonment or fines of a maximum of $50,000 per offence.
