KEY POINTS:
* Theta Systems has recently announced the appointment of William Shi as a senior net developer. Shi has many years IT experience, including over 10 years Microsoft Platform development experience.
* New Zealand Magazines, publisher of the Listener and New Zealand Woman's Weekly, has announced the appointment of Louise Wilson to the role of advertising sales director. She replaces Susana Leitao, who is leaving the company in early February to travel and pursue private interests, and who will be consulting to APN in 2008.
UK-born Louise is a media sales professional with extensive experience both in the UK and New Zealand. She moves within APN NZ Ltd from her position as strategic development executive, a role in which she has successfully re-structured the outbound call centre, managing 3000 clients and delivering significant growth within 18 months, an achievement for which she won the TUANZ Contact Centre Manager of the Year 2007 (25-75 seat category).
She was previously a project manager and the real estate sales manager for The New Zealand Herald, and in the UK she was responsible for the portfolio sales teams for all Financial Times' publications, including three magazines. Whilst at the FT she was recognized as being in its top one per cent of employees through her training at the FT Academy.
* Dr Richard (Rick) Ede has been appointed Unitec New Zealand's new chief executive officer following the retirement of Dr John Webster at the end of last year.
Dr Ede, whose academic background is in organic chemistry, will return to New Zealand to take up his new position in April after spending the past eight years based in Australia. In 2000, Dr Ede joined Australia's national research agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). During his time with CSIRO, Dr Ede played a significant role in the formation of Ensis, a joint venture between CSIRO and New Zealand's Scion. After spending some time as Chief of CSIRO's Forestry and Forest Products Division, he was appointed CSIRO's general manager of client and partner relationships, supporting the organisation's $300m portfolio of business relationships with industry, government agencies, and research and funding bodies.
* Commercial cleaning franchise Jani-King has appointed new regional manager Craig Bennett, to drive its New Zealand operations in 2008. Leaving his previous role as general manager at Taylors Pt Chevalier and Spotless Healthcare Supply, Craig has brought with him 12 years of experience in the healthcare, hospitality and commercial cleaning sectors.
* First National Real Estate has appointed Claire Waring to the position to general manager. Waring has worked for the network for more than five years in the role of membership services manager and has become the first female general manager in the history of First National, New Zealand.
First National Real Estate Chairman Colin Wilson said Waring's skills in her previous role, where she focussed on marketing, training and support to more than 100 network offices - made her the perfect choice for the role.
* Total Healthcare Otara, a South Auckland Primary Health Organisation, has announced the appointment of Mark Vella to the role of chief executive officer. Vella has held senior management and advisory roles in the health and education sectors along with general management experience in the private sector. He has an in-depth knowledge of the primary health care structure and he is charged with continuing the development of easy access to high quality health care to those who need it most.
* Kiwi Global Enterprises, based in Whangarei, are pleased to announce that Dennis Atkinson has joined their company as a Canadian director. Mr. Atkinson is based on the west coast of Canada and has many contacts throughout the country to help this rapidly growing recruitment company that started by placing truck drivers overseas.
* Recruitment specialist Madden welcomes back Libby Thomson as a senior recruitment consultant. Madden have operated in Auckland for 16 years specialising in the recruitment of Executive Assistants and Personal Assistants. They are now expanding to include crucial business support roles, both temporary and permanent, including Receptionists, Administrators and Secretaries, Accounts, Customer Service, Human Resource Assistants and Marketing Assistants. * Hailey Boock has recently been appointed as operations manager at The Fairy Shop, Ponsonby, Auckland. Hailey has recently returned to The Fairy Shop after a year in Dunedin.
* Jade Software Corporation recently announced the appointment of Paul Keleghan to the position of head of development; responsible for 100 Jade application developers who build and support applications developed in JADE. Keleghan's most recent employment has been with the British Government in the Home Office and prior to that the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Defence where he managed complex projects and diverse teams implementing IT systems.
* Global cost management and procurement consultancy Expense Reduction Analysts has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Michael Nicholas as regional training and development manager for its Australian and New Zealand operations. Expense Reduction Analysts secured the skills of Mr. Nicholas in order to harness a career spent in the franchise industry both as an executive and as a franchisee. Formerly Mr. Nicholas worked with McDonalds in Australia for over 20 years and in 1995 oversaw its operations in Queensland. Prior to joining Expense Reduction Analysts, he worked as a franchisee of The Coffee Club.
* ING New Zealand has appointed Craig Brown as senior analyst within its investment team. Formerly a principal at an Auckland-based boutique funds management firm, and with 17 years' experience in the industry, Craig has a broad set of skills that include asset and investment sector research, portfolio management, and strategy. He has specialised in New Zealand and Australian equities, and in the listed property markets.
* ESET, a global security software company and developer of ESET Smart Security, has appointed Craig Johnston to the newly created position of Asia Pacific channel manager. Sydney-based, Johnston has moved from IBM, where he spent the past four years leading a team of anti-malware and IT security specialists. He has a 15-year track record in IT security.
* Roslyn Mortimer has been made Head of Marketing for the Noel Leeming Group, New Zealand's leading appliance and electronics retailer. She was previously Marketing Manager for Noel Leeming, one of the groups two brands.
At Noel Leeming Group since 2006, Roslyn is responsible for all elements of the marketing mix, from branding, advertising and public relations to developing the companys corporate social responsibility strategies.
Prior to joining Noel Leeming Group, she was Marketing Manager of Countdown Supermarkets under Woolworths and Progressive Enterprises. With more than 10 years retailing experience, she has also worked as Events Manager at the Farmers Trading Company and as Sponsorship Portfolio Manager at Vodafone.
