Recruitment and human resource consultancy TMP/Hudson Global Resources has appointed Peter Harbidge as its practice manager for IT engineering, technical and operations. Harbidge will cover New Zealand and Australia and be based in the Auckland office.

McPhail Sports has appointed world surf ironman champion Cory Hutchings as a key account manager, working from its Auckland office on the North Shore. He will be responsible for brand management and retail relationships.

Dr Ian Maxwell, an expatriate New Zealander with executive global experience in research management and starting new technology-based businesses, has been appointed general manager, special projects at Auckland UniServices. His company, Maxco BV, has provided consultancy on technology strategy, spin-out technologies and business development in Europe and Asia.

Transpower New Zealand has appointed Stuart Low as general manager people and performance. He returns to Wellington from a senior position with AMP Financial Services in Sydney. Low has held strategic human resources roles in New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the United States.

University of Auckland business school economics head Dr John Small has been appointed a lay member of the High Court of New Zealand. He will help in cases involving appeals from decisions of the Commerce Commission.
