Sovereign has appointed Lisa Gunnery as senior manager, health insurance. Gunnery joins Sovereign from the Allianz Group in Germany, where she was head of regional support and operations for the international health insurance business, with a special focus on Asia, and Central and Eastern Europe.

Aucklander James Wilson has been appointed the new chief of the Employment Relations Authority. Already a member of the authority, he takes over from Alastair Dumbleton, who will remain a member for a further four years. Wilson served on the authority from 2000 to 2002, when he resigned to take up a strategic employment relations role in the Health Sector. He was reappointed to the authority in May last year.

Peter Hughes, chief executive of the Ministry of Social Development, has been appointed to the Equal Employment Opportunities Trust Board for a three-year term. He will replace Anne Carter, acting chief executive of the Ministry of Women's Affairs, who has chosen not to seek reappointment.

Women's business charity Dress for Success has elected three new board members. They are: Heather Kean, owner of recruitment and human resources consultancy Pohlen Kean; Sara Myles, head of sales and marketing recruitment for TMP Hudson; and Rosemary Chung, chartered accountant.

NZ Fasteners has appointed Rob Mouncey as a director. Mouncey is principal of his own consulting company, director of the Employers and Manufacturers Association, director of the Auckland Showgrounds, and acts in governance, consulting and mentoring roles for several small and medium sized companies.

Professor Graham Hingangaroa Smith, who was Pro Vice-Chancellor (Maori) at the University of Auckland for five years, has been awarded a Distinguished Chair in Indigenous Education at the University of British Columbia. The chair is the first of its kind at the University of British Columbia and will involve supporting the development of indigenous education across Canada.
